Social Innovation for Health Initiatives Sites LGU Del Carmen Innovations in Public Services to address Social Determinants of Health

In these trying times, we recognize those committed to public service. In the Municipality of Del Carmen, Surigao Del Norte, local government has responded to the COVID-19 pandemic by launching the following initiatives to assist communities and families who need it most:

  • Tawag-Konsulta (Telemedicine) – Del Carmen has set up a facility with their Polyclinic to tap on the free consultation program offered by Surigao Del Norte. This includes laboratory, ultrasound and X-ray services, as well as access to medicine to minimize travel to the city for consultation and exposure to health risks.
  • Burial Assistance – Burial assistance is available for indigent families who have lost their loved ones. This service helps minimize public gatherings, possible risk of exposure and to address financial burden.
  • Mobile Vegetable Market – This mobile market not only provides healthy produce to families in need, but it also supports local farmers and fisherfolk. Seeds for planting are also provided by the LGU.
  • Weekly Rice Subsidy – Every week, families are provided rice. Del Carmen has continuously done this since March 14, and by managing resources wisely, has the capacity to do so until June 2020.

SIHI Philippines is proud to share these stories of Del Carmen. Saludo po kami sa inyo!

Back in 2017, Del Carmen was one of the four innovations awarded in the SIHI Innovation Call for their Seal of Health Governance (SOHG) Program. Read more about the SOHG here
